The sea-front village of Kokkari is 10 km northwest of Samos. Its two forelands form a small cove. The settlement dates from the beginning of the 19th century and was built on the ruins of a former Byzantine settlement. The name derives either from the onion bulbs that the inhabitants cultivated. Kokkari has maintained its traditional character and attracts a lot of tourists. In the west there are the beaches of Tsamadou and Lemonakia, with crystal clear waters and pines that almost reach the sea.
